Irrhausen Wayside Cross Hiking Trail
Irrhausen
Over the centuries, Christian symbols, crosses or chapels have been erected in the Eifel at mysterious crossroads, memorable places of remembrance or places of unfortunate incidents. They ask the passer-by for a prayer. The annual Corpus Christi and vow processions have been taking place in Irrhausen for centuries to the so-called seven foot drop crosses.
Praying at the "foot drop crosses" is an old custom in intact village communities that expressively documents the village's sense of community and togetherness.
On a hike through the beautiful Eifel landscape around Irrhausen you will get to know ten wayside crosses and their stories. The information boards on the crosses display a QR code. This leads to a short explanation and audio files with the exciting, sometimes sad-sad stories about the crosses along the way.
Depending on your mood and fitness, the wayside cross hiking trail can also be walked in sections and loops. The south-east loop is particularly family-friendly and also suitable for prams.
