Irsental - Tal der Schmetterlinge
Irrhausen
The valley of butterflies -
Here in the Irsental valley, the natural watercourse with adjoining meadows, rocky ecosystems and coppice forest areas intertwine in an ideal way. This is the habitat of a species-rich flora and fauna with wild orchids, amphibians and reptiles as well as almost 80 bird species.
The "Ginsterheiden Irsental" nature reserve is characterised by its steppe grasslands, hawthorn bushes and the golden flowering broom bushes in spring - the "Eifel gold". Short paths connect the individual plant and animal communities. Exploring the area with children or inexperienced hikers is an entertaining walk. The numerous hiking trails provide a good insight into the different cultures and communities of flora and fauna. A separate area with a small reservoir and picnic areas on the north-eastern edge of the nature reserve invites you to relax and unwind. The nature reserve covers an area of around 80 hectares and is accessible all year round and can be explored on your own or with an expert guide.
We have organised a little treasure hunt for younger visitors. With the GPS device, which can be borrowed from the Arzfeld tourist information centre, you can go on a treasure hunt. On this short hike, Benni Biber accompanies the kids for approx. 2.5 kilometres to 13 stations, where he asks questions or sets them small tasks to solve.
