The Enz cycle route

Pronsfeld

Across the rugged hilly landscape of the “wild” Islek region, this cycle tour follows the Enz river through to where it flows into the Prüm. Here, a cycle tour of the Eifel offers impressive all-round views over the Islek hills, experience the butterfly valley in the Irsental nature reserve, and cycle on the disused railway line from Pronsfeld to Neuerburg with its picturesque, historic town centre through unspoilt nature and two tunnels. Further upriver, the Enz flows out of the valley, which cuts deep into the mountains, into the broad Bitburger Gutland region with its sun-kissed orchards. The Eifel cycle tour continues through the Enz water meadows and pretty Eifel villages. After a ridge of hills, the route reaches Holsthum in the Prüm valley, where it joins the Prüm cycle route.

TIP: The Enz and Prüm cycle routes can be combined into an exciting three- to four-day circular tour.

The Chalk Eifel cycle route

The cycle route runs through the Ahbach valley to connect the Kyll and Ahl cycle routes. The tour leads to a part of the Eifel which has been dominated by chalk quarrying since the Roman times, and which has many different attractions to offer. Highlights on the Eifel cycle route are the European model town of Hillesheim, Burg Kerpen castle, the Kloster Niederehe monastery and the “growing” waterfall at Dreimühlen. On forest paths and on a disused railway track almost throughout, it crosses the water divide between the Ahr and Moselle basins without steep inclines. Combined with the Ahr, Moselle, Kyll and Rhine cycle routes, shorter and longer circular trips are possible between the Ahr, Rhine, Moselle and Kyll rivers.
