Devonium
Waxweiler
This museum tells one of the most exciting evolutionary stories. The Earth had already existed for thousands of millions of years before a green revolution created the basis for life as we know it about 400,000 years ago. The plants left the water and conquered the land. Immerse yourself into this distant world. The Devonium explains these complex scientific facts about fossil life (palaeontology) in a playful way.
During the Devonian era, Waxweiler was situated in a river delta, similar to the Orinoco delta today in Venezuela. This sub-Devonian delta is the site of unique fossilised plant discoveries. The museum shows the latest scientific findings related to the fossils found in the Köppen quarry near Waxweiler and the depositional environment of the rock strata uncovered there.
If you want, you can go on a fossil hunt outside of Waxweiler yourself. Hammer are provided by the guest house on loan.
