Heimische Kräuter im Garten
May 25, 2025
Lauperath
In every garden, they exist: wild herbs. They are often unjustly referred to as weeds. However, wild herbs such as dandelion, plantain, ground-ivy, garlic mustard, and chickweed are not only important for insects and other animals but are also healing and aromatic food sources for us humans. Much of the knowledge of our ancestors has been forgotten. A small insight into the diverse uses of native herbs in the garden will be provided by Ms. Alma Hermes as part of the Natural Park Academy of the Südeifel Nature Park in this course.
Ms. Hermes has lived in the 20th generation on the Mayischhof, a former farmstead. Her vegetable garden is planted according to the Capitulare de Villis established by Charlemagne and includes many of the plants, spices, and medicinal herbs recommended to him at that time. She will also address the reasons behind this concept that afternoon.
